Locate the meter display
Identify the type of meter
Read the numbers from left to right
Ignore any red, decimal, or zero digits at the end if instructed by your utility
Record only the black digits for a standard analog meter
For a digital meter, note the full displayed number
If the meter has multiple dials, read them in order from left to right
Write down the reading exactly as shown
Compare the reading with a previous reading to calculate usage
Submit the reading to your gas provider if required
