Gather the book, new cover material, glue, bone folder, scissors, craft knife, ruler, pencil, brush, and clamps or weights
Remove the old cover carefully
Separate the text block from the cover
Clean off old glue and loose paper from the spine
Repair torn pages or damaged signatures
Measure the text block
Cut new cover boards and spine material to size
Cut and prepare the cover cloth or paper
Attach the boards and spine piece to the cover material
Fold and glue the cover material neatly around the boards
Let the cover dry under weight
Glue the text block into the new cover
Press the book closed and let it dry completely
Trim any uneven edges if needed
Check that the book opens and closes properly
