Apply a cold compress to the swollen area for 10–15 minutes at a time
Keep your head elevated, especially when lying down
Drink plenty of water
Reduce salt intake
Avoid alcohol
Get enough sleep
Use an antihistamine if swelling is due to allergies and it is safe for you
Avoid touching or massaging the swollen area
Rinse your face with cool water
Remove any known irritants or allergens
Take prescribed medications as directed
Seek urgent medical care if swelling is sudden, severe, painful, or affects breathing or swallowing
