Make sure the area is well ventilated
Check that the gas supply is on
Turn the cooker control knob to the ignition or high setting
Press and hold the knob if required
Use the built-in igniter or a long lighter to light the burner
Keep holding the knob for a few seconds after the flame appears
Release the knob and confirm the flame stays lit
Adjust the flame to the desired level
If the burner does not light, turn it off and wait before trying again
