Measure and mark the patio area
Check local codes and call utility locating services
Choose pavers, base materials, edge restraints, and sand
Excavate the area to the required depth
Slope the ground for drainage
Compact the subgrade
Install landscape fabric if desired
Add and compact the gravel base in layers
Install edge restraints
Add a leveling layer of bedding sand
Screed the sand smooth and level
Lay the pavers in the desired pattern
Cut pavers to fit edges and corners
Install the border pavers
Compact the pavers with a plate compactor
Sweep joint sand into the gaps
Compact again and add more joint sand as needed
Repeat until joints are full
Clean off excess sand
Seal the patio if desired
Inspect for level, alignment, and drainage
