How to Paint a Painted Dresser?

Remove drawers, hardware, and any removable parts

Clean the dresser thoroughly with soap and water or a degreaser

Let the dresser dry completely

Lightly sand the existing painted surface to dull the finish

Wipe away all dust with a tack cloth or damp microfiber cloth

Fill dents, holes, or scratches with wood filler if needed

Sand patched areas smooth after they dry

Apply a bonding primer suitable for painted surfaces

Let the primer dry according to the label instructions

Lightly sand the primed surface if needed

Wipe away dust again

Apply the first coat of paint with a brush, roller, or sprayer

Let the first coat dry fully

Apply a second coat of paint if needed

Let the final coat cure completely

Reinstall hardware or replace it if desired

Reassemble the dresser once fully dry and cured
