Clean both metals to bare, bright metal
Clamp the mesh tightly against the thicker metal
Use a low-heat welding process such as TIG or spot welding
Set the welder to the lowest effective amperage
Use short tack welds instead of continuous welds
Start with small tacks at spaced intervals
Let each tack cool before adding the next
Use a copper backing bar or heat sink behind the mesh
Use a fine filler rod or matching wire only if needed
Keep the arc focused on the thicker metal, not the mesh
Reduce wire feed and voltage if using MIG
Use pulse settings if available
Weld from the thicker metal into the mesh edge
Avoid overheating to prevent mesh burn-through
Secure the mesh with temporary fasteners before welding
Stitch weld in short bursts if a continuous seam is required
Check alignment after initial tacks before finishing
Remove slag, spatter, and oxidation after welding
Inspect for weak spots and add reinforcement tacks if needed
