How to Put on a Spare Tire?

Pull over to a safe, level area away from traffic

Turn on hazard lights and set the parking brake

Put the vehicle in park or in gear

Place wheel chocks or blocks behind the opposite wheels if available

Remove the spare tire, jack, and lug wrench from the vehicle

Loosen the lug nuts slightly before lifting the vehicle

Position the jack at the correct lift point

Raise the vehicle until the flat tire is off the ground

Remove the lug nuts completely

Take off the flat tire

Mount the spare tire onto the wheel studs

Hand-tighten the lug nuts

Lower the vehicle until the spare tire touches the ground

Tighten the lug nuts in a crisscross pattern

Fully lower the vehicle and remove the jack

Tighten the lug nuts again in a crisscross pattern

Check the spare tire pressure if possible

Store the flat tire and tools back in the vehicle

Drive carefully and avoid high speeds if using a temporary spare

Have the tire repaired or replaced as soon as possible
