Take the fabric outdoors and brush off any loose mold
Wear gloves and a mask
Wash the fabric in the hottest water safe for the material
Add laundry detergent and oxygen bleach if the fabric allows
Soak the fabric in a solution of oxygen bleach and water
For white cotton or linen, use diluted chlorine bleach if the care label permits
Rub liquid detergent or stain remover directly into the mold stains
Let the fabric air-dry in direct sunlight if possible
Repeat washing if stains remain
Avoid machine-drying until the stains are fully gone
Clean and dry the item completely before storing it again
