Make a slip knot on the hook
Hold the yarn with your non-dominant hand
Yarn over the hook
Pull the yarn through the loop on the hook
Repeat yarn over and pull through for each chain stitch
Keep the stitches even and not too tight
Stop when you have the desired number of chains
