How to Draw Newman Projections?

Identify the carbon-carbon bond you want to view

Draw the front carbon as a dot

Draw the back carbon as a circle behind the dot

Place the three bonds of the front carbon at 120° angles from the center dot

Place the three bonds of the back carbon at 120° angles from the circle

Attach the correct atoms or groups to each bond

Keep the front carbon bonds in the foreground

Keep the back carbon bonds behind the circle

Choose the desired conformation

Rotate only one carbon if needed to match the conformation

Check that each carbon has three substituents plus the carbon-carbon bond

Verify the relative positions of all groups after drawing
