Park on a level surface and turn off the engine
Open the hood and locate the brake fluid reservoir
Check the fluid level against the MIN and MAX marks on the reservoir
Make sure the fluid is between the marks
Inspect the fluid color through the reservoir if visible
Look for dark, cloudy, or contaminated fluid
Check the reservoir cap and surrounding area for leaks or damage
Confirm the brake warning light is not on
If the level is low, use the correct brake fluid type specified in the owner’s manual
If the fluid is very low or dirty, have the brake system inspected
