How to Stop Getting Other People’s Mail?

Write “Not at this address” or “Return to sender” on the envelope

Cross out the barcode if present

Place the mail back in your outgoing mailbox or give it to your postal carrier

Notify your local post office of the incorrect delivery

Ask your mail carrier to stop delivering that person’s mail to your address

If the person moved out, ask the sender to update their records

Contact the sender directly and request they remove your address

Mark your mailbox clearly with the correct names of current residents

Remove or cover old resident names from your mailbox

If the mail is for a previous tenant, keep returning it consistently

For repeated deliveries, file a complaint with the postal service

If the mail is addressed to a business or former occupant, contact the property manager

If you receive someone else’s sensitive mail, report it to the post office immediately
