Rinse the shells under cool running water
Scrub gently with a soft brush or toothbrush
Soak the shells in warm water with a little dish soap
Remove dirt and debris from crevices
Rinse thoroughly with clean water
Soak briefly in a diluted bleach solution if needed
Rinse again several times after bleaching
Let the shells air dry completely
Repeat cleaning if any residue remains
