Dig a 1-block-deep trench 4 blocks long
Place a water source at one end
Place lava at the other end
Put a nonflammable block between the water and lava if needed to control the flow
Let the water and lava meet to form cobblestone
Mine the cobblestone with a pickaxe
Refill or extend the setup as needed for continuous farming
