How To Mud Drywall?

Gather joint compound, drywall tape, mud pan, taping knives, sanding sponge, and dust mask

Cover floors and nearby surfaces

Check drywall screws and nails; drive any protruding fasteners below the surface

Fill gaps and deep holes with joint compound

Apply a thin coat of mud over seams and screw holes

Embed drywall tape into the wet mud on seams

Smooth the tape with a knife to remove excess compound and air bubbles

Let the first coat dry completely

Apply a second, wider coat of mud over seams and fasteners

Feather the edges of each coat outward

Let the second coat dry completely

Apply a third thin finishing coat if needed

Sand lightly between coats and after the final coat

Wipe away dust before painting or priming

Inspect for ridges, pinholes, and uneven spots

Touch up any remaining flaws with a thin coat of mud and sand again
