How To Cite Chicago Style?

Chicago style citations use either footnotes/endnotes with a bibliography or author-date citations with a reference list

For footnotes/endnotes, place a superscript number in the text and give the full source in the note

For a bibliography entry, list sources alphabetically by author’s last name

Book format: Author Last Name, First Name. Title of Book. Place of Publication: Publisher, Year

Journal article format: Author Last Name, First Name. “Article Title.” Journal Title volume, no. issue (Year): page range

Website format: Author Last Name, First Name. “Page Title.” Website Name. Publication or access date. URL

In footnotes, use the full citation the first time and a shortened citation afterward

In author-date style, use parentheses in the text with author last name and year, plus page number if needed

Author-date book format: Author Last Name, First Name. Year. Title of Book. Place of Publication: Publisher

Author-date journal article format: Author Last Name, First Name. Year. “Article Title.” Journal Title volume, no. issue: page range

Italicize book titles, journal titles, and website names when required

Put article titles and chapter titles in quotation marks

Include page numbers for direct quotations and specific references

Match punctuation and capitalization to Chicago style formatting

Use the same citation style consistently throughout the document
