Choose a pork shoulder or pork butt
Trim excess fat if desired
Season the pork with salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, and cumin
Rub the seasoning all over the pork
Place sliced onions or garlic in the bottom of the slow cooker
Set the pork on top
Add a small amount of liquid such as broth, water, apple juice, or barbecue sauce
Cover and cook on low for 8 to 10 hours or on high for 4 to 6 hours
Cook until the pork is very tender and shreds easily with a fork
Remove the pork from the slow cooker
Discard excess fat and bones if present
Shred the pork with two forks
Return the shredded pork to the slow cooker juices if desired
Mix well and let it soak for a few minutes
Serve on sandwiches, tacos, rice, or bowls
