Mash malted barley or other grains
Add hot water to convert starches into fermentable sugars
Separate the sweet liquid from the grain solids
Cool the liquid
Add yeast
Ferment until the sugars are converted into alcohol
Distill the fermented liquid to concentrate the alcohol
Collect the spirit
Age the spirit in oak barrels
Dilute to the desired bottling strength
Filter if desired
Bottle the whiskey
