How To Repair A Zipper?

Check whether the zipper is stuck, misaligned, missing teeth, or has a broken slider

Gently work the zipper up and down to free any fabric caught in it

Apply graphite from a pencil, soap, or zipper lubricant to help it slide

Use tweezers to remove trapped threads or fabric

Realign both sides of the zipper teeth before pulling the slider

If the slider is loose, gently squeeze it with pliers

If the slider is damaged, replace it with a new one

If the top or bottom stop is broken, replace the stop with pliers or a new stopper

If teeth are bent, straighten them carefully with pliers

If teeth are missing, replace the zipper

If the zipper separates after closing, tighten or replace the slider

If the pull tab is broken, replace it with a key ring or new pull

Test the zipper several times after each repair

Replace the entire zipper if the damage is severe
