How To Give A Sub Cut Injection?

Wash your hands thoroughly

Gather the prescribed medication, syringe, needle, alcohol swabs, and sharps container

Check the medication label, dose, and expiration date

Inspect the medication for discoloration or particles if applicable

Clean the injection site with an alcohol swab and let it dry

Choose a subcutaneous site such as the abdomen, outer thigh, or back of the upper arm

Pinch a fold of skin between your fingers

Insert the needle into the skin at the angle recommended for the needle length and body type

Inject the medication slowly and steadily

Remove the needle at the same angle it was inserted

Release the skin fold

Apply gentle pressure with gauze or cotton if needed

Do not rub the injection site

Dispose of the needle and syringe immediately in a sharps container

Wash your hands again

Rotate injection sites as directed by your healthcare provider

Seek medical help if you have severe pain, swelling, rash, trouble breathing, or signs of infection
