Soak the rhizome in water overnight
Cut into pieces with at least one bud on each piece
Let the cut pieces dry for 1 to 2 days
Fill a wide pot with rich, well-draining soil
Plant the rhizome pieces 1 to 2 inches deep with buds facing up
Water lightly after planting
Place the pot in a warm spot with bright, indirect light
Keep the soil consistently moist, not soggy
Feed with a balanced fertilizer every few weeks during growth
Add more soil around the stems as they grow
Harvest small pieces after 4 to 6 months
Harvest the full rhizome after 8 to 10 months when leaves turn yellow
