One player thinks of a secret word or phrase
Draw a blank line for each letter in the word or phrase
The other player guesses one letter at a time
If the guessed letter is in the word, write it in every correct blank
If the guessed letter is not in the word, add one part to the hangman drawing
Keep guessing letters until the word is completed or the drawing is finished
Win by guessing the full word before the hangman drawing is complete
Lose if the hangman drawing is completed before the word is guessed
