Open the door
Locate the screws on the handle plate or trim
Remove the visible screws with the correct screwdriver
Check for a small set screw on the handle neck and loosen it with an Allen key if present
Pull the handle or knob off the spindle
Remove the trim plate or cover if it is still attached
Unscrew the latch plate on the door edge
Pull the latch mechanism out of the door
Keep all screws and parts together for reinstallation
