Find the tag type (security ink, hard plastic pin/tag, or reusable beeper label).
Check the garment care label for any warnings about heat, solvents, or soaking.
If it’s a hard plastic security tag:
Use a professional security tag removal tool (detacher) if available.
If you don’t have the tool, take the item to a store or dry cleaner for removal.
If it’s a beeper tag on a hook/clip:
Return the item to the retailer for removal.
Do not force or cut the clip if it could damage fabric or trigger ink.
If it’s a security ink tag (liquid/gel ink):
Do not try to pry or cut it off.
Take the garment to a dry cleaner or the store for removal.
If it’s a reusable beeper label (common on some retail items):
Remove it only if you have an authorized removal method for that specific model.
Otherwise return to the store for removal.
If the tag is already damaged or leaking:
Avoid touching the ink with bare hands.
Blot gently with a clean, dry cloth.
Wash according to the garment care label as soon as possible (use cold water first).
If ink got on fabric, use a stain remover suitable for the fabric and test in an inconspicuous area.
If you cannot confirm the tag type:
Stop and take the garment to the retailer or a dry cleaner for removal.
