Locate the title certificate
Verify the buyer’s full legal name
Check the odometer reading if required
Review the title for any lienholder information
Sign the title exactly where the seller signature line is
Print your name if required
Enter the date of sale if required
Fill in the sale price if required
Complete any buyer information section if required
Have any co-owner sign if required
Remove the license plates if required by your state
Give the signed title to the buyer
Keep a copy of the signed title for your records
Submit any required release of liability or transfer notice to the DMV
