How To Steam Clams?

Rinse the clams under cold running water

Scrub the shells with a brush

Discard any cracked or broken clams

Discard any clams that stay open when tapped

Soak the clams in cold salted water for 20 to 30 minutes to help remove sand

Drain and rinse the clams again

Add a small amount of water, broth, wine, or a mix to a large pot

Add aromatics if desired, such as garlic, shallots, butter, or herbs

Bring the liquid to a boil

Add the clams to the pot

Cover the pot with a lid

Steam over medium-high heat for 5 to 10 minutes

Shake the pot occasionally

Remove the clams as they open

Discard any clams that do not open after cooking

Serve immediately
