Use a new, factory-sterilized needle whenever possible
Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water
Clean the needle with soap and water if it is visibly dirty
Place the needle in boiling water for at least 20 minutes
Remove the needle with sterilized tongs or forceps
Let the needle air-dry on a clean sterile surface
Avoid touching the needle tip after sterilizing
Use an autoclave if available and follow the manufacturer’s instructions
Use a chemical sterilant only if specifically approved for the needle type
Discard the needle if it is bent, damaged, or contaminated after sterilizing
