Gather sharp scissors and a towel
Catch and gently hold the chicken securely
Wrap the chicken in the towel to keep the wings still
Extend one wing fully
Identify the primary flight feathers on the outer half of the wing
Cut only the first 5 to 10 primary feathers on one wing
Avoid cutting the blood feathers
Do not cut too close to the wing joint
Leave the shorter secondary feathers untouched
Check that the cut is even and not too short
Repeat on the other wing only if needed for balance
Release the chicken and observe its movement
Recheck the wings after each molt and clip again if necessary
