How To Erect A Chain Link Fence?

Check property lines, local codes, permits, and utility locations

Measure the fence run and mark post locations

Gather materials: posts, rails, mesh, tension bars, bands, ties, caps, concrete, and tools

Set corner, end, and gate posts first

Dig post holes to the required depth

Place posts plumb and pour concrete

Allow concrete to cure

Install line posts between terminal posts

Attach top rails to the posts

Stretch a tension wire or bottom rail if needed

Unroll the chain link mesh along the fence line

Stand the mesh upright and attach one end to a terminal post with tension bars and bands

Pull the mesh tight with a fence puller or come-along

Secure the opposite end to the next terminal post

Fasten the mesh to line posts with ties

Install the top and bottom tension bands as needed

Trim excess mesh and secure cut ends

Install gates and hardware

Check alignment, tension, and all fasteners

Add post caps and final touches
