How To Remove A Tick From A Dog?

Gather fine-tipped tweezers and clean gloves (optional), antiseptic, and a container/tissue for the tick

Use steady, even pressure to grasp the tick as close to the dog’s skin as possible

Pull straight upward without twisting or jerking

Continue pulling until the tick comes out completely

If any mouthparts remain, remove them with tweezers if they are clearly visible and easy to grasp

Clean the bite area with antiseptic

Wash hands thoroughly with soap and water

Place the tick in a sealed container or tissue and dispose of it

Watch the area for redness, swelling, or worsening irritation over the next few days

Contact your veterinarian if the tick was attached for a long time, if you can’t remove it, if you notice lethargy/fever/loss of appetite, or if the area becomes infected

Use tick prevention products as directed by your veterinarian to reduce future ticks
