Rinse 1 cup white rice until the water runs mostly clear (optional for basmati/jasmine)
Add rice to the Instant Pot inner pot
Add water or broth (use 1 cup rice + 1.0–1.25 cups water)
Add salt to taste (optional)
Add 1–2 tsp oil or butter (optional to reduce foaming)
Close lid and set valve to Sealing
Pressure cook on High for:
White rice: 4 minutes
Brown rice: 22 minutes
Basmati/jasmine (white): 4 minutes
When cooking ends, let pressure release naturally for 10 minutes (white rice) or 20 minutes (brown rice)
After natural release, carefully switch valve to Venting to release remaining pressure
Fluff with a fork and serve
If rice is undercooked: add 2–4 tbsp water, stir, pressure cook 1–2 more minutes, then quick natural release 5 minutes
If rice is too wet: cook with lid off on Sauté 2–5 minutes, fluff, and let steam off
