How To Find Excess Reactant?

Balance the chemical equation

Convert the given amounts of each reactant to moles

Use the mole ratio from the balanced equation to determine how much of one reactant is required for the other

Compare the required amount with the amount available for each reactant

The reactant that is completely used up first is the limiting reactant

The reactant left over is the excess reactant

Subtract the amount of excess reactant used from the amount initially available to find how much remains
