Sit upright and lean forward slightly
Spit out any blood that collects in your mouth
Pinch the soft part of your nose (just below the nasal bone) firmly
Hold continuous pressure for 10–15 minutes without releasing
Breathe through your mouth during the hold
After 10–15 minutes, release and check if bleeding has stopped
If bleeding continues, repeat pinching for another 10–15 minutes
Apply a cold pack to the bridge of the nose or cheeks
Avoid blowing your nose, picking your nose, or inserting anything into your nose
Avoid heavy lifting, straining, and vigorous activity for 24 hours after stopping
If bleeding doesn’t stop after 20–30 minutes of direct pressure, seek urgent medical care
Seek urgent medical care immediately if bleeding is heavy, you feel faint, you have trouble breathing, or blood is flowing rapidly into the throat
Seek urgent medical care if you take blood thinners or have a bleeding disorder
