Look for a new lump or thickening in the breast or underarm
Check for changes in breast size, shape, or symmetry
Look for skin dimpling, puckering, redness, or swelling
Check for nipple changes such as inversion, flattening, or direction change
Look for nipple discharge, especially if bloody or clear and spontaneous
Check for persistent breast pain in one area
Feel for lumps or hard areas while standing or lying down
Use the pads of your fingers to press in small circular motions over the whole breast and armpit area
Check the entire breast from collarbone to bra line and from armpit to cleavage
Repeat the same check on the other breast
Do the check at the same time each month
Seek medical care promptly if you notice any new or unusual change
