Wash the avocado and dry it
Slice lengthwise around the pit
Twist the halves to separate
Remove the pit by striking it gently with a knife and levering it out
Scoop the flesh with a spoon, or peel the skin if needed
Cut into slices by slicing lengthwise and crosswise
Dice by making lengthwise cuts, then crosswise cuts to form cubes
For wedges, cut each half into quarters and remove any remaining pit pieces
