Adjust the seat so you can fully press the clutch and reach the steering wheel comfortably

Set seatbelt

Keep the gear lever in neutral before starting

Fully press the clutch pedal

Start the engine

With the clutch still fully pressed, move the gear lever to 1st gear

Slowly release the clutch until the engine speed drops slightly and the car begins to move (point of engagement)

While holding at the engagement point, gently press the accelerator to increase engine speed

Continue releasing the clutch smoothly until fully released

Accelerate in 1st gear as needed

To shift up: fully press clutch, move to the next higher gear, then smoothly release clutch while adding light accelerator

To shift down: fully press clutch, move to the lower gear, then smoothly release clutch while reducing or matching accelerator to avoid jerks

When slowing: lift off the accelerator, press clutch, shift down as needed, then release clutch smoothly in the lower gear

To stop: press clutch fully, shift to neutral, and apply the brake to come to a complete stop

If starting on an incline: apply parking brake, follow the start procedure in 1st gear, then release parking brake smoothly while releasing clutch and adding accelerator

For parking: shift to neutral, engage parking brake, and (if desired) turn off the engine

If you stall: press clutch fully, move gear lever to neutral, restart engine, then repeat the start procedure in 1st gear
