Be a permanent resident of Canada
Be physically present in Canada for at least 1,095 days in the 5 years before applying
File your taxes for at least 3 years within the 5 years before applying, if required
Show adequate knowledge of English or French if you are 18 to 54 years old
Pass the Canadian citizenship test if you are 18 to 54 years old
Meet the age requirements for the application you are submitting
Not be under a removal order
Not be serving a sentence for a criminal offense or be prohibited from citizenship for legal reasons
Complete the citizenship application form
Pay the application fee
Submit supporting documents
Attend the citizenship test, interview, or hearing if required
Take the citizenship oath at a citizenship ceremony
Receive your Canadian citizenship certificate
