Check the care label before treating the stain
Blot fresh stains with a clean white cloth or paper towel
Rinse the stain with cold water from the back of the fabric
Apply liquid laundry detergent directly to the stain
Gently rub the fabric together or use a soft brush
Let the detergent sit for 5 to 15 minutes
Wash the garment in the hottest water safe for the fabric
Add oxygen bleach for washable white fabrics if needed
Soak heavily stained items in oxygen bleach solution
Treat grease stains with dish soap before washing
Treat sweat stains with white vinegar or baking soda paste
Treat blood stains with cold water only
Treat coffee or tea stains with detergent and oxygen bleach
Repeat treatment before drying if the stain remains
Avoid putting stained clothes in the dryer until the stain is gone
Use chlorine bleach only if the fabric label allows it
Air dry the item after the stain is removed
Use a stain remover spray for set-in stains
Wash whites separately from colored laundry
Keep white clothes out of direct contact with makeup, deodorant, and food stains
