How To Play Chess Game?

Set up the board with each side’s pieces on the first two rows

Place the white pieces on ranks 1 and 2

Place the black pieces on ranks 7 and 8

Put the rooks in the corners

Put the knights next to the rooks

Put the bishops next to the knights

Put the queen on her matching color square

Put the king on the remaining square

Place all pawns on the second row in front of the other pieces

White moves first

Take turns moving one piece at a time

Move the king one square in any direction

Move the queen any number of squares in any direction

Move the rook any number of squares horizontally or vertically

Move the bishop any number of squares diagonally

Move the knight in an L shape

Move the pawn forward one square

Move a pawn forward two squares on its first move

Capture with a pawn one square diagonally forward

Capture opponent pieces by moving onto their square

Use en passant when allowed

Promote a pawn when it reaches the last rank

Castle by moving the king and rook together under the rules

Do not move into check

Protect your king from attack

Checkmate the opponent’s king to win

Stalemate ends the game in a draw

A draw can also happen by agreement, repetition, fifty-move rule, or insufficient material
