Check the tube or box for an expiration date, best-by date, or use-by date
Look for a printed date on the crimped end, back of the tube, or outer carton
Check the batch or lot code if no date is listed
Visit the manufacturer’s website or contact customer service to decode the batch code
Check the product packaging for a PAO symbol, such as an open jar icon with a number like 12M or 24M
Use the toothpaste within the period indicated after opening if a PAO symbol is shown
Replace toothpaste if the date has passed or if the product has changed in color, smell, or texture
Discard toothpaste that has separated, dried out, or developed an unusual taste
Check expiration dates on both the tube and the outer box if they differ
Store toothpaste properly to help maintain its shelf life
