Wash your hands and the finger with soap and water
Sterilize tweezers and a needle with rubbing alcohol
If the splinter tip is visible, grip it with the tweezers and pull it out in the same direction it entered
If the splinter is under the skin, use the sterilized needle to gently lift the skin over the tip
Once the tip is exposed, remove it with the tweezers
Wash the area again with soap and water
Apply antiseptic ointment
Cover with a clean bandage
Change the bandage daily
Seek medical help if the splinter is deep, broken, near the nail, or cannot be removed
Seek medical help if there is redness, swelling, pus, worsening pain, or fever
