Wear gloves, goggles, and an N95 or better mask
Ventilate the area by opening windows and using fans
Fix the moisture source first
Remove and discard any drywall that is soft, swollen, crumbling, or mold-damaged beyond the surface
Lightly mist the moldy area with water to reduce dust
Clean the surface with soap and water
Apply a mold-killing solution to the affected area
Scrub the surface with a brush or sponge
Wipe away residue with clean water
Dry the area completely with fans or a dehumidifier
Seal or repaint only after the drywall is fully dry
Replace drywall if mold returns or the damage is extensive
Dispose of contaminated materials in sealed bags
Wash hands and clothing after cleanup
