Remove cabinet doors, drawers, hinges, handles, and hardware
Label each piece for easy reassembly
Clean all surfaces thoroughly with a degreaser
Remove old finish with sanding or a chemical stripper
Fill dents, holes, and imperfections with wood filler
Sand all surfaces smooth
Vacuum and wipe away all dust
Apply primer if needed
Apply stain or paint in thin, even coats
Let each coat dry fully
Lightly sand between coats if necessary
Apply additional coats until coverage is complete
Seal with a clear topcoat or protective finish
Reinstall hardware, doors, and drawers
Allow the finish to cure before regular use
