Check wind, current, tide, and swing room
Select the right anchor and sufficient anchor rode
Prepare the anchor, chain, and line before approaching the spot
Approach the anchoring spot slowly into the wind or current
Stop the boat where you want the anchor to set
Lower or gently drop the anchor to the bottom
Let out rode gradually as the boat drifts back
Pay out enough scope for secure holding
Snub the rode to help the anchor dig in
Reverse slowly to set the anchor
Confirm the boat is holding position
Secure the rode to a cleat or bow fitting
Use an anchor alarm or visual reference if needed

Retrieve the anchor by moving slowly toward it and lifting it vertically
