Give acetaminophen or ibuprofen as directed on the label or by your child’s doctor
Do not give aspirin to a child
Offer plenty of fluids
Dress the child in light clothing
Keep the room comfortably cool
Let the child rest
Use a lukewarm sponge bath if needed
Do not use cold baths, ice, or alcohol rubs
Check the child’s temperature regularly
Call a doctor if the child is under 3 months old with a fever
Call a doctor if the fever is very high, lasts more than 3 days, or the child looks very ill
Get urgent help if the child has trouble breathing, a seizure, a stiff neck, confusion, dehydration, or a rash that does not fade when pressed
