Wash your hands and gently clean the blister with mild soap and water

Pat the area completely dry

Do not pop an intact blister

Apply a hydrocolloid blister bandage or a sterile nonstick dressing

If the blister is large or painful, use a padded moleskin ring around it to reduce pressure

Keep the foot elevated while resting

Avoid walking or wear loose, cushioned footwear

If the blister has already opened, leave the skin flap in place if possible

Apply a thin layer of antibiotic ointment only if the blister is open and the skin is broken

Cover the open blister with a nonstick sterile bandage

Change the dressing if it becomes wet or dirty

Take an over-the-counter pain reliever if needed and if safe for you

Keep the area dry overnight

Seek medical care if there is spreading redness, pus, fever, severe pain, or if you have diabetes or poor circulation
