Mark the drilling point
Check for hidden wires, pipes, or rebar
Wear safety glasses, hearing protection, and a dust mask
Use a hammer drill or rotary hammer
Use a masonry drill bit
Start with a small pilot hole if needed
Set the drill to hammer mode
Hold the drill straight and steady
Apply firm, even pressure
Drill slowly at first
Pull the bit out occasionally to clear dust
Use water or a vacuum for dust control if appropriate
Switch to a larger bit if needed
Stop if you hit rebar or metal
Insert the anchor or fastener after drilling
Clean out the hole before installing hardware
