You cannot get a W-2 directly from the IRS
Contact your employer or former employer and request a copy of your W-2
Check your employer’s payroll or HR portal for an electronic copy
If you still do not receive it, call the IRS at 800-829-1040
Have your name, Social Security number, address, employer’s name, and dates of employment ready
The IRS can contact your employer and request the missing W-2
If needed, file Form 4852 as a substitute for Form W-2
Use your final pay stub and other records to estimate your wages and withholding
If you already filed your tax return without the W-2, file an amended return if necessary
Keep copies of all requests and correspondence related to the missing W-2
