Open a cartography table
Place the map in the left slot
Add paper in the right slot
Take the expanded map
Repeat with more paper to increase the map size again
Use a crafting table with 8 paper around 1 empty map to make a new map
Hold the map and explore farther to fill the larger area
Enable larger world exploration by moving beyond the current map borders
